(March 30 to April 6, 2019) A week stay in Las Cruces, New Mexico for me was more than enough. I had to wait until April 7th to check into the campground in Joshua Tree National Park. It looks like Las Cruces is a big retiree’s town. The trails in this area were easy or moderate. I went to a Local Tai Chi class and spoke to a lady in the class. According to her: it is cheap to live here, the outdoor weather is good year around, and the people are nice in Las Cruces so that attracts retirees.
During my stay here, the wind blew hard for many days. My car got covered with yellow dust. One day, I saw a self-car wash place and gave my car a good wash. I could have visited a hot springs (1.5 hours one way driving) and even a ski resort (closed for now, about 3 hours one way driving) from Las Cruces. Traveling long term, I see each place as home and need to do necessary chores as well. Other days, I decide to enjoy reading a book and shopping for necessary supplies. For the next couple of weeks I am going to camp in Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks. I need to purchase enough food, water, and etc. as there is no stores in those Parks.
