Sailing from Loreto to Conception Bay

Bahia Conception, the Sea of Cortez, Mexico

(December 23, 2021 to January 8, 2022) From Christmas day 2021 to January 7th of 2022, we had neither cellular connection nor Wi-Fi. Without it, I went to bed earlier and earlier. For my New Year’s resolution, I set my bed time from 9:30pm to 5am. It is a good balance for me. I am an early riser. I read somewhere, if you are a worm, it is better get up late.

We are about in the middle of the Sea of Cortez (Baja California), at Bahia Conception. There are many small islands and protected anchorages. This bay is a safe place for kayaking and paddling. I started rowing our dinghy. It is a great exercise (especially abdominal). The surface of the water in the early morning is often like a mirror!

At night, my new thing is watching the bioluminescence in the water as well as the stars in the sky. Whenever the water breaks on the surface or even a fish moves in the water, we see bright blue bioluminescent flash followed by sparkling glitter. It is almost like dropping a chunk of blue paint in the black surface. It all happens so fast, and all over the place it is hard to describe how mesmerizing it is.

In the Coyote Beach area, I walked to a mini-market and bought ALL of the fruits and vegetables in the store. They had 5 apples, 5 bananas, 3 avocados, 2 potatoes, 2 onions, and 6 zucchinis. Sorry for the next customers but the owner told me that they will bring more on the next day.

We met new people in the RV/Camp parks in the Conception Bay. There are some RVs with bird-feeders, potted of plants, and palm leaf walls. Most of these snowbirds are from the USA or Canada. The more time we chitchatted with people, the sadder we got when the time approached for departing. There is a saying in Buddhism, just a split second of passing a person in this life, is caused by thousands of meetings in a previous life. The law of cause and effect and reincarnation!
