A Week Stay in Las Cruces, New Mexico State

Las Cruces (about 45 miles from El Paso, Texas), New Mexico, USA

(March 30 to April 6, 2019) A week stay in Las Cruces, New Mexico for me was more than enough. I had to wait until April 7th to check into the campground in Joshua Tree National Park. It looks like Las Cruces is a big retiree’s town. The trails in this area were easy or moderate. I went to a Local Tai Chi class and spoke to a lady in the class. According to her: it is cheap to live here, the outdoor weather is good year around,

Camping in Guadalupe Mountain National Park, Texas

Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas, USA

“Going to the woods and wild places has little to do with recreation and much to do with creation.” – Wendell Berry, Words From the Land

“Conocer las areas naturales tiene poco que ver con el recreo y mucho que ver con la creacion.” – Wendell Berry, Words From the Land

(March 28 to 30, 2019) I was going to skip the Carlsbad Caverns National Park because I didn’t want to drive in the opposite direction. People told me how magnificent the Carlsbad Cavern is. The big room in the Cavern is about 14 football fields in size.

At Hueco Tanks State Park, Texas, US

After driving from Florida to El Paso in Texas, I gained some confidence in myself, my car and my plan. Prior to this I wasn’t sure so I didn’t book any campgrounds in the national parks. While staying for a week in an extended stay hotel in El Paso I spent lots of time online booking as well as hiking and sightseeing in the El Paso area. The pictures below were taken by my phone.

Traveling as a free spirit, wherever and whenever with many destinations in mind!

At Darryl’s Cattle Ranch, Oxford, Florida, USA

I am sure someday I will lose my interest in traveling. For now, I want to travel as much as I can. I have a lot of time, a little savings, no obligations, and a physical and mental capable body. My goal is to do road/car camping trip for the next six months. My car (aka “Tank”, a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis) carries my food, clothes, tent/sleeping bag, and even some tools. The huge back seat is enough for me to sleep comfortably when necessary. I am self-contained. Car-camping trip is easier than sailing as it is on land not on the ocean.

Trial Camping – Sleeping with Animals in Nature

New Purchases for My Car-Camping Trip: 2003 Grand Marquis and Marmot Limelight 2P Tent

(January 15 – 17, 2019) For the first time I am car-camping alone. I picked Dupuis Campground in Florida, two hours’ drive from my home. This was to see (1) if I am capable of camping alone, (2) if I like it, and (3) what I must carry. About 80% of my friends didn’t understand my new adventure and/or showed some negativity on my plan. I know that I am happiest when I am in the middle of nature. So, I focused on listening to those who actually have gone camping before.
