Evening with Colombian Families, ‘No Posible Ingles’

Our boat projects are almost completed.

We cheered when the ‘Water Maker High Pressure Gauge’ was successfully installed. At first, we thought we had to send the parts to the USA. Sending and receiving parts takes more time and also may involve 28% import tax. Magically, a local hydraulic store solved our problem (*Store Name: Correas, Guayas Y Ensambles S.A.S., *Address: Carrera 11a. No. 11-23, Santa Marta, Colombia).

With pleasure, we invited the owner of the hydraulic store and his workers and their wives over to the boat for an informal evening of drinks and snacks. We had eleven guests on our boat including three kids. We are not fluent in each other’s language but we had a great time. One time, when a five year old girl spoke to me in Spanish, I tortured her asking her to respond in English. She paused momentarily and responded with ‘No Posible Ingles’.

A Wonderful Evening

A Wonderful Evening

The kids were so happy to be on our boat and laughed all the time. They tried to play with our three cats even though our cats were stressed with new visitors and looked for a secure place on the boat. Usually, our cats don’t stay together. However, I found all three of them were gathered at a corner hating being close to each other… In front of them, there was a Rubik’s cube and a half of Oreo cookie topped with a kitty crunchy… Only kids can come up with these ideas!

Our Cats (From Left: Sesame, Swat, and Enemy). Note the gifts from the children, a Rubik's Cube and half an Oreo cookie with a kitty crunchy on top! Despite the presents, the cats don't look happy.
