Upcoming Sailing Trip to Atlantic Islands

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. – Abraham Lincoln

It looks this Saturday (May 27, 2017) is the day for sailing to Bermuda. We have been monitoring the weather. Our plan is to the Atlantic Islands: Bermuda (June) – Azores (July) – Portugal (August) – Madeira (September) – Canaries (October) – Cape Verde (November) – St. Martin (December) – Puerto Rico (January 2018) – Panama Canal (February 2018).

The first destination (Bermuda) is about 700 miles away. It will be about 5-6 days of sailing.

Where to Buy a Prepaid Korean SIM Card in Incheon Airport, South Korea

(April 12 to 23, 2017) For phone calls and the internet access in Korea (12 days), I purchased a Korean SIM Card from a small bookstore (Arrival Floor at the Incheon Airport). This store is located at the opposite side of Exit Door #7 (to Outside). The door numbers are sequential. I didn’t see any noticeable sign of selling SIM Cards but in the store, I saw a small sign of selling SIM cards and the description of three plan types.

Prepaid Korean SIM Cards are available for only foreigners (Foreign Passport Holders). You will need (1) Unlocked Smartphone,

Spring Cleaning; I now happily own less items

“We must be the change we wish to see in the world.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Detaching from personal belongings is not easy. For The last five months, I have been living on land, not on the sailboat on the water. This gave me an opportunity to get rid of some of the unused items in my condo. It might be because I am a Buddhist; the less I have, the freer I become (excluding money and friends, honestly), so that is what I practice.

This time, I sold some of the unused items on Craigslist and trashed some others.

Outdoor Exercise, Gore Betz Park in Fort Lauderdale

I am taking a break from sailing and staying at my home in Fort Lauderdale this winter/spring. Enjoying the warm weather in South Florida, I often see many visitors in town. Of course, that comes with busy traffic. Luckily, not owning a car, I don’t deal with the traffic.

Since sailing, I have been using my folding bicycle as my main transportation method. It lets me go from point A to B. I am used to walking also. When sailing and arriving at a new place in a new country, we had to walk to do something.

Winter 2016/2017, Jump for Joy!

(January 15, 2017) Meeting old friends and neighbors! For staying in the Caribbean for last two years, we decided to enjoy winter weather this time. We also have things to take care of on land. Leaving the boat in North Carolina, John purchased a used vehicle. We drove it to Fort Lauderdale with our two cats. Nice to be back in Florida, Sunshine State! Despite of the heavy traffic in South Florida, we are enjoying the comforts and conveniences on land for now.

Navy Battleships and Chrysler Museums in Norfolk, Virginia

(October 23 – 25, 2016): Coming into Norfolk waterway, many Navy ships, submarines, a military hospital ship, and etc. cannot be missed. This is the biggest port I have ever seen so far.

The city of Norfolk is not too big not too small. It is comfortable and easy to look around the city. Until we visited Norfolk, we didn’t know much about this city. After spending a couple of days in downtown, we liked Norfolk a lot. The best thing we liked here is taking a self-guided tour of the humongous IOWA class battleship ‘USS Wisconsin’, one of the largest and last battleships built by the U.S.
